We are proud to announce that three of our colleagues will be traveling to Norway this August as part of the Kenya - Norway Resilient and Sustainable Aquaculture Exchange Programme. This opportunity is supported by the Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation (Norec) and marks a significant milestone in Jumbo Fish Farm continued growth as a leader in sustainable aquaculture across East Africa.
The programme is a collaboration between Val Skoler AS (Norway), AquaFind AS (Norway), and Jumbo Fish Farm (Kenya), and is fully funded by Norec with a total approved grant of NOK 1,694,902 for the first round.?
This first round of the exchange will run for eight months, beginning with preparatory training in mid-August, followed by a six-month stay in Norway and a two-month follow-up phase back in Kenya.
Our team will be hosted by Val Skoler, a renowned Norwegian school in aquaculture, where they will focus on fish health and welfare, sustainable feed innovation, digital transformation using platforms like AgriGrowth, and enhancing market predictability and coordination within the aquaculture value chain. The programme will also support capacity building in policy engagement and value addition, areas that are central to JFF ongoing impact work with smallholder farmers.
This exchange is more than a professional development experience; it is an investment in the future of aquaculture in Kenya. As our staff engage with leading experts and technologies in Norway, they will also be shaping how knowledge is transferred back home improving practices, informing regulation, and expanding access to innovation among the farmers we work with across the Lake Region Economic Bloc and beyond.
The partnership with Val Skoler and AquaFind not only strengthens our technical foundation but also demonstrates what strategic collaboration between African and Nordic institutions can achieve. This exchange reinforces JFF place as a credible and capable partner for investors, donors, and innovators seeking to make a measurable difference in the food systems space.
We are excited for this journey and grateful to Norec for the trust and support. As we prepare to send our colleagues to Norway, we remain committed to building a resilient, inclusive, and modern aquaculture ecosystem that transforms livelihoods and creates lasting impact from the lake to the market, and now, from Kenya to the world.
